On this week’s Oregon Outdoors, the Mail Tribune’s Mark Freeman is in northern California walking amongst some of the largest Redwoods in existence. The Grove of Titans has been a destination for big tree lovers for years, but this popularity has come at a cost. The forest duff and shallow root systems of these Redwoods have been trampled on while making makeshift trails and has put these trees at risk. A $3.5 million project is underway to construct an elevated walkway through the Grove with the aim of preventing damage to the forest duff and root systems.
