REM’s bass player, and keyboardist Mike Mills was born on this day in 1958.  His band would stay together for 31 years producing over 280 songs with 15 albums.

We leap decades to 2005.

U2 had the top-grossing tour of that year, according to Billboard.  Their Vertigo tour performed for over 3 million fans and grossed 260 million dollars.

In order to save a struggling club, Sir Paul McCartney performed a 2-hour concert before the lunch crowd at the 100 Club on London’s Oxford Street making it the smallest venue played by the artist in over 10 years.

Hello Adele!

Adele would reach super-stardom when she was named Billboard’s top artist of 2012.

Her album 21 would be named top album of the year in music magazine’s annual review.
