John Lennon was born on this day in 1940, and 35 years later his son Sean was also born. It was also the day that Lennon’s murderer was denied parole in 2002 for the second time.

Nirvana topped the charts with their third and final studio album ‘In Utero’ on this day in 1993. The album included the songs: ‘Heart Shaped Box,’ ‘All Apologies,’ ‘Dumb,’ and ‘Rape Me’.

The now-iconic Ohio State University marching band also found its song on this date in 1965. The marching band played ‘Hang on Sloopy’ for the first time, and it quickly caught on. The song is still played to this day by the marching band and in 1985 it became the state song of Ohio.
