This Day In Politics: Woolworth Sit-Ins
41 years ago, Joe McNeil, David Richmon, Jibreel Khazan, and Franklin McCain walked in and sat down at the “Whites Only” lunch counter at F. W. Woolworths. Though they were denied service they refused to leave. And as the Civil Rights Movement chugs forward, desegregating the Southern States, theirs was the first of many peaceful protests that culminated in the Equal Rights Act.
