Well, the body needs time to build up its immunity even after a vaccine is administered. Participants infect immediately before or after the vaccine is given can still become symptomatic. The vaccine itself does not carry the virus and the CDC still advises everyone to wear their masks, maintain social distance, and wash their hands.
